Solanum muricatum 'Pepino'
The unusual, oval fruits of the Pepino or melon pear are cream skinned with purple streaks. The sweet and juicy flesh has a taste and aroma similar to melon, and can be eaten in a similar way. Pepino is a shrubby fruit plant that is ideal for growing outdoors or in a container. The plants need warmth to flower and fruit successfully. Feed and water frequently. Solanum muricatum is self fertile and is pollinated by insects. Harvest pepino just before they are fully ripened. They will store for several weeks at room temperature.
